The 2010 Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition got off to a busy start on September 1st as delegates streamed into Museum Africa, Newtown, to take part in day one of the jam-packed conference programme.

The event was opened by the Director General of the Department of Arts and Culture, Themba Wakashe, and the MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation at the Gauteng Provincial Government, Ms Nelisiwe Moerane.

So your band is playing some shows, your fanbase is steadily growing. Where to from here? More shows, bigger shows, sponsors and backing? If that's what you want, and I can't see why it wouldn't be, you'll need a press kit. That said, the majority of press kits land up in the garbage and are a waste of time, paper and ink. Only because they aren't done correctly though, it's easy to make one that isn't a waste, one that has all the essential elements included.

13th Annual BASA Awards winners announced

Thirteen innovative business and arts partnerships were acclaimed at the 13th Annual Business Day BASA Awards, supported by Anglo American.

Successful businessman Dick Enthoven was named the recipient of the first Art Champion Award for his philanthropic contribution to the arts.

The winners of South Africa’s most prestigious business/arts awards were announced at an event held at the historic Villa Arcadia. Speaker on the night was the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile. Performances by renowned mime artist Andrew Buckland, the Big People Puppets, as well as Standard Bank Young Artists Melanie Scholtz and Samson Diamond celebrated the evening.

Yay for South Africa! It's always good to see quality acts starting to make a little stir internationally and, even though it is a rather rare phenomenon, it seems to be becoming at least a little more common. What with the World Cup hoopla and acts like Die Antwoord spreading their zefness, it seems the rest of the world might be acquiring a taste for the eclectic SA flavour. The latest act to get some foreign love is the talented musician Spoek Mathambo.
