A Boy Called Wolf Ears DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE

28 May 2011 - 15:00
28 May 2011 - 17:00

A Boy Called Wolf Ears is launching a powerful set of indie pop songs at Newtown's Unity Gallery on Saturday the 28th May.

A guy. A guitar. A very good producer. It's the stuff of mythical music legends, but we all know that a quality set of songs, simply but thoughtfully put together, remains a rarity. Nonetheless, Joburg-based singer songwriter A Boy Called Wolf Ears is giving this status quo a quiet middle finger as he launches his eponymous first album.

Brandon October

Every so often there comes along a singer with a unique talent. Pop vocalist and songwriter, Brandon October has been given such a talent. Here is a singer with an incredible vocal who has over the years come to be highly respected by his peers as well as the music industry.

Brandon  is credited among South Africa's most spectacular voices. His seemingly endless vocal range, which extends more than three octaves, coupled with his gift for communicating a song, has brought the house down in many prestigious venues.

John McHattie - Top Class Entertainer

John's Biography ::

"I began songwriting before I knew how to read or write properly. Those first memories were sitting under a tree, singing songs off the top of my head as I had no preconceptions as to what a song had to be but experienced a great deal of joy attempting it.

I discovered I had talent when I was in Grade 5, auditioned for school concerts and got the part as a result of the audition. This was really good for my young little ego and I was so proud. My parents, although they were happy for me, always gave me that "It's a nice hobby" line.

Meri Kenaz - Angel

4:32 minutes (3.17 MB)

There’s an angel at my front door
He’s saying please just let me in
He’s so beautiful it’s blinding
But I can’t seem to let him in

Because tomorrow I will wanna fade away
And I can’t do that, do that to him
I will wanna fade away
And I can’t do that, do that to him
I will wanna fade away
And I can’t do that, do that to him
I will wanna fade away
And I can’t do that, do that to him

(Now let me tell this story to you):
Here’s an old man with his soul mate
To him she’s beautiful, unseen (He’s blind you see)
The love they share is so amazing
Such love in me there’s never been

Meri Kenaz - Branches

4:00 minutes (3.72 MB)

I believe a little
I think it all makes sense when you speak
But I get caught up in the middle
Of the cross-fire conversation streak
It’s a fight between my brain, oh
And a deeper knowing of the truth
I still get tossed to and fro
But over-thinking’s tapping my youth, oh…

Now I’m small, I’m breaking all these
Moulds upon me one by one
I’m making room ‘cause very soon
In my branches birds will sing their tunes

A little more I let go
Digging ever deeper know thyself
An inner mental go-slow
Amidst the violence of worldly wealth
And all the time you’re right here
Deep within my gut you put the word
Its saying ‘Baby, don’t fear!
