The Abbott Network

Band members.jpg

The Abbott Network is an
unique and captivating original ensemble that was created during 2009 in the
mother city of South Africa,
Cape Town. The
Abbott Network’s repertoire can be best described as fusion. You can
expect to
hear influence from across the globe with strong authentic rhythms and
soulful
melodic attributes. The band is predominantly a studio band that
composes and
records albums for public sales and broadcast. However, the
instrumentalists of the band are also known for performing live as the
backing band to solo
artist Lindiwe Suttle. This is where The Abbott Network jumps out the
studio and
onto stage rocking it out fusion style. Combined, members of The Abbott

Freshlyground

Tune into Africa 1.jpg

Freshlyground formed in early 2002, and is made up of seven talented and diverse musicians from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Fronted by the diminutive but dynamic Zolani Mahola, the band exudes a live performance energy that has been the bedrock of their success. The experienced rhythm section of Peter Cohen (drums) & Josh Hawks (bass) is complimented by guitarist Julio Sigauque, keyboardist Seredeal Scheepers, Simon Attwell (flute, mbira, sax and harmonica) and violinist Kyla Rose Smith. Although hailing from diverse backgrounds, between them the band’s members weave a musical magic that is highly infectious and undeniably groovy.

Skwatta Kamp

Skwatta Kamp refuses to apologise for not making Kwaito, Afro-pop and House albums even though they are from Johannesburg, the capital of those genres. With their fifth official album aptly named “Bak On Kampus”, it is clear that they are still not relenting in their stance.

Senzo ‘KWESTA’ Vilakazi was born 11 August 1988 to school teacher Thabsile Vilakazi, on the East Rand of Johannesburg. It was during his high school days at J.G. Strydom where the dream of becoming a rap superstar began, he was a constant irritation to his teachers for writing verses and poems during lessons but as time went on, the very same teachers started asking KWESTA to give examples of his writing by reciting whatever “student friendly” verse or poem he had for the class.

Guy Buttery

guybuttery.jpg

As you drive about 13 miles north of Durban, the largest city in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, you pass a lush fertile belt where the rich green shades of the sugar cane meet the turquoise of the Indian Ocean. This is where on the 26th November 1983, guitarist and composer Guy Buttery was born and raised in a small coastal town along the North Coast. This is a place of enchantment, freedom, promise and where the creative spirit takes charge. Besides being introduced to music at an early age through his mother who plays the piano and his older brothers who played guitar, the muse naturally took hold of Guy when he was ten.
