In a bid to raise funds to take more students through tertiary next year, the NPO; Agang Sechaba will host an ‘Educate A Child’ Polo Charity Event at the Inanda Polo Grounds, Sandton on the 29th of October 2011.
Having just opened its doors to tertiary bursary applications a few weeks ago, Agang Sechaba has been inundated with applications confirming that a lot of students in the country are in need of financial support to pursue their dreams and become skilled citizens who can compete on the same level as privileged students.
Run by women from diverse backgrounds who are dedicate their time to empowering women in poor communities and feed hungry children, the NPO, Agang Sechaba has to date successfully managed to put 15 kids through the Edutech Master Learner (EML) Development Programme, (an educational program to assist kids from grade 10, 11, & 12 with study skills), and is currently paying for 5 kids in tertiary (2 at UJ, 1 at Wits, 1 at UCT and another at College Campus). Some of the kids who are now at tertiary level, for whom Agang Sechaba is paying, came from this educational programme.
As the organisation continues to impact the communities they work in, they would like to be able to take at least 7 new students through tertiary and if more funds avail themselves increase the number.
Agang Sechaba is calling upon corporates to support this event by buying marquees at the polo event and help raise more funds. Individuals can buy tickets from www.entrytickets.co.za
About Agang Sechaba
Agang Sechaba is a women’s initiative which was formed by professional women who are passionate about community development. It is aimed at improving the lives of the children and women in the South African Communities. Agang Sechaba is managed by the same women, who come from diverse professional backgrounds and are passionate about making things happen, rather than watch.
As a result of this passion and quest to give back, a trust was registered through which charitable deeds and empowerment of unemployed women and child headed households would be realised.
Agang Sechaba conducts its work in child-headed homes, orphanages and among unemployed women. Their services include sponsoring children’s education, sponsoring soup kitchens, ensuring the children it sponsors are clothed, supporting/initiating sustainable Women Community Projects and also partners with other community organizations based on a synergy of strategy, technical and chemistry fit.
Some of Agang Sechaba’s current projects include:
• Kwa Thema (Soup Kitchen),
• Kwa Thema Titimang Sechaba Project,
• Xmas Project (Olivenhout, Tlhokomelo-Home Orlando, Kwa-Thema),
• The Winter Project (Blankets),
• The Educational Project (Issuing of bursaries to financially deserving individuals with good academic records),
• Adopt a child/family Project and
• Miriam Makeba Home for Girls.
