Sunday evening was the first unplugged set by aKing Overtone has had the opportunity to cover. The Green Dolphin in Cape Town was packed packed — mostly aKing fans, by the sounds of things — and we had to crouch by the grand piano in the corner for the Levis Vintage Sundays gig, which also featured an unplugged set by Taxi Violence [Video | Taxi Violence Unplugged].
aKing’s raspy-throated frontman Laudo Liebenberg did the Punkskelm boys good, playing a set from superbly produced debut album Dutch Courage [Album review | Dutch Courage] and managing to placate the multitude of fans from all over the city. Even Mike Smith from the ever-growing YourLMG gig guide print mag was there, and commented on the ‘international standard’ of the album. Did we mention it was a free show?
