Coca-Cola has enjoyed great success in the past few years with very exciting music concepts, from Coca-Cola Popstars 1, 2 and 3, to the Coca-Cola Collaboration CD, Coca-Cola Colab Live-On-Tour and last year’s Coca-Cola Colab Massive Mix Festival.
This year Coca-Cola and 5FM are proud to announce the coming of MY COKE FEST – 2007’s biggest music festival. This exciting music festival kicks off in Johannesburg on Friday the 27th of April at the New Market Racecourse, then moves to Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on Tuesday the 1st of May.
Twelve hours, Two Cities and ten bands performing live at each venue! So steal some sunshine, have some fun, grab a Coke and enjoy music on the Coke side of life.
GUNS N ROSES
The rock n roll machine known as Guns N’ Roses have announced that they will be hitting the road starting in April. The first leg of the Chinese Democracy World Tour 2007 will see GN’R performing in Japan, Thailand, South Africa, South America, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. 2006 saw Guns N’ Roses perform over 70 concerts all over the world to rave reviews.
With the release of the highly anticipated Chinese Democracy album imminent, 2007 promises to be even busier and more exciting for the band and their loyal fans. When it comes to performing live, lead vocalist W. Axl Rose, guitarist Robin Finck, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboard players Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman, and drummer Frank Ferrer are a rock n’ rock spectacular that have to be experienced to be believed. For the very first time in their storied career, Guns N’ Roses will be performing in South Africa. GN’R are scheduled to headline the My Coke Fest taking place in Johannesburg on April 27th and Cape Town on May 1st.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to play in some of the most historic buildings and stadiums around the world but performing in South Africa will truly be an honor,” said Axl Rose, “I can’t wait to see South Africa. This is a dream come true”.
EVANESCENCE
Having sold nearly 14 million records worldwide with their debut major-label album Fallen, Evanescence continues their meteoric rise with their latest offering, The Open Door. The album from the two-time Grammy-winning band is defined by Amy Lee’s beautiful melodies, compelling lyrics, poignant piano and stunning vocals, fused with the urgent, yet intricate guitar sounds of Terry Balsamo and John LeCompt, and the powerful drumming of Rocky Gray, to form a seamless, ethereal mixture that perfectly channels the band’s hard rock and classical sensibilities.
The bands evolving sound is a nearly mystical marriage between rock, goth and classical. The internationally appealing Top 10 singles “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal” helped drive airplay and led to two 2003 Grammy Awards (Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance for “Bring Me To Life”). Fallen spent more than 100 weeks on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, was certified gold or platinum in over 35 countries, and sold out concerts globally… And the band has only just begun to make its mark on the music world!
HOOBASTANK
Listeners tired of rock’s same-sounding rap will rejoice upon hearing the melodic resonance of Hoobastank. Dan Estrin (guitar), Doug Robb (vocals), Chris Hesse (drums), and Markku Lappalainen (bass) deliver electrifying tunes that slice through the genre’s stylistic fetishes and goes straight for its emotional core, blending invigorating melodies and sharp, insistent hooks with blasting rhythm rock guitars.
Hoobastank delivered one of the true phenomenon’s of rock’s last two years with The Reason.
The title hit, “The Reason,” 2004’s longest-running rock single inside the Hot 100, was nominated for Grammy awards as Song Of the Year and Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal, while The Reason was nominated as Best Rock Album. Released December 2003, The Reason eventually peaked at #2 and became the Island Def Jam Music Group’s biggest and hottest-selling album of 2004. “The Reason” hit #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks, Adult Top 40, and Top 40 Mainstream charts, and rose to #2 on the Hot 100. The song was heard by tens of millions when it was featured on the high-rated Friends retrospective special, and an episode of The O.C. The group subsequently earned three nominations at Teen People magazine’s “Teen Choice” Awards.
The Reason was nominated for Best Group Video and Best Rock Video at the 20th annual MTV VMAs, where Hoobastank performed. They also performed at the 14th annual World Music Awards, appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, they were the only rock band chosen to perform at the A-list “Fashion Rocks” concert event at Radio City Music Hall! Named Favorite International Rock Act at the MTV Asia Awards in 2005, and after logging more than a year on the Billboard 200 albums chart, their long-awaited second album, Every Man For Himself was released last year.
Also on the bill are STAIND and 3 DOORS DOWN.
No doubt that it’s all happening again this year. Keep an eye on the blog for more…
