Statistics & Photos | Rocking The Daisies 08

| This happened to a lot of people at Rocking the Daisies 2008, and it may have happened to you. You’re lying there, perhaps taking a recharging power-nap at 3am, when you hear a rustling at the door of the tent, followed by a careless zipping sound. Despite the unique appeal to South Africans, Botswana’s Wrust were overshadowed by Carcass

I was in touching distance of one of the founding bands of death metal, and I honestly did not know what to do with myself. The band had just walked on stage with a presence that made you forget about your numb feet and hands from standing in the cold and just heat up instantaneously. With a songs from their third album Heartwork, like Buried Dreams and No Love Lost, the time that every serious metalhead in South Africa had travelled to see had arrived: Carcass.

Pics & Vids | DMC DJ Battle Finals
For the purposes of deflating an already too-self-congratulatory music environment, I’m gonna be trying to beat my own personal high score at Devil’s Advocate for this one. The SA DMC DJ Champs. A last-minute media hookup through Quake from Choice Records (you’re my my mom’s other son, bro). A 5pm pickup and handshake at the newly redeveloped Mercury Live and a few choice four-letter words for some drunken tit who’s promising to watch my car (which I’m selling back at my place in Woodstock in exactly ten minutes — better make this quick). And disco — we’re good to go for Overtone media coverage of the DJ event of the year, right up there alongside the African Hip Hop Indaba. Badabing. That’s how I roll, bitches.
