Will Mono & Jan Joknie – Seks Vir Plesier

Monday, February 15th, 2010

WILL MONO is the name of an exciting new artist who recently surfaced on the SA music scene. Not following the oh-so-familiar recipe of starting yet another band sounding like…ah well…another band, Will Mono chose a different direction. He makes music and then collaborates with other artists who sing the songs – definitely a fresh take in an already overcrowded music market. Mono recently emerged in the music scene when he, together with Jan Joknie, released the single “Seks Vir Plesier”, which caused quite a stir with its ambiguous lyrics and provocative scenes. The video of the single went to nr. 3 on the MK Top 10 Music Video Charts and is still amongst the Top 10.

I am in love with Will Mono and Jan Joknie. What? You don’t know who they are? They are the duo behind Seks Vir Plesier. It’s Afrikaans electro/pop at its best. Draw conclusions where you will regarding the content, as for the song as a whole, it’s catchy, electro genius…” – Gabi Goldberg, Musical Mover & Shaker.

Chris Chameleon – Kyk Hoe Lyk Ons Nou

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

chris_chameleon

This is a tough CD to write about. Not just because my Afrikaans leaves a lot to be desired, but also because I was such a huge BOO! fan and nowadays anything Chris Chameleon does that isn’t BOO! is slightly disappointing to me. Silly I know, but with so many other reunions happening lately, I just want to say I know I’m not the only person who would jump with joy at the prospect of a BOO! reunion.
That said (and until it happens, hold thumbs), Chris is still without a doubt a South African music legend! I can’t imagine anyone being able to deny for one thing his incredible voice, not to mention his diverse talent.

aKING l Interview l ‘We were signed before we existed!’

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

When did you start and who works with you, and what sort of music do you perform?

The band formed when Hunter Kennedy and Jaco Venter from Fokofpolisiekar, teamed up with friends Laudo Liebenberg and Hennie van Halen, combining creative forces in making music to expresses shared experiences and influences. aKing then wrote an album, recorded and released it and started playing live in February this year.

aKING play melodic Pop-Rock with focused energy. We aim for sing-along alternative country-inspired songs and Classic Rock anthems. Our lyrics are  tongue-in-cheek and cynical, yet sometimes sentimental mixed with an infectious, positive energy.

Are you signed to a record label? What albums have you released

We were signed before we existed with Rhythm Records and we have one album out, Dutch Courage which was released on 1 February 2008. The album was recorded at BSharp Studios in Boksburg and contains 11 original English rock tracks.  We had three no 1 hit singles, from the album and it has been hailed as one of the best rock releases in SA in 2008. The first single “The Dance” was play-listed on 5fm and reached the no 1 chart position on the 5fm Hi 5 at 5 Chart,
