On Friday 6th June 2008 the Cape Town Magistrate denied the application for a temporary liquor license for the Assembly. This decision was based on information from the city council to the effect that despite the substantial initial work done The Assembly did not meet council requirements in terms of its sound proofing.

As some of you may know we have been receiving noise complaints for several months. Since the beginning of these complaints we have been working with numerous sound professionals, and council departments to establish the source of the noise break out and what measures can be taken to rectify the situation. Unfortunately this is a lengthy, surprisingly complicated and fairly frustrating process.

We have presently found ourselves in the situation that the council have had to follow the legal process of informing the Magistrate of the sound situation. This has led to our temporary closure while we meet the specified requirements.
