Mystical Delights and Ingenious Madness fitting for the month of March. Fancy a cuppa tea with that???
Unlike the Mad Hatters traumatic little event, this one promises to delight.
And so it shall. Prepare yourself for this is one event that bound to turn your world inside out.
Join the “madcap melody-makers, artists flamboyant, syrupy tea-ladies, freakish party animals, cross-dressing gorilla’s, candy-floss cowgirls, rooibos sippen diva’s, greased-up rockers, disco deviants, swingtastical jazz-cats, loved-up funkters, queenly kings, kingly queens, non-sensical amusers, trumpet blasting poodles, cupcake cuties, cookie-cutter mullets, betty crocker matrons, minge muffins, crimplene cookies, animal crackers, hot-but-not-cross buns, iced fancies, eccentric tribesman, afro-shaking mama’s, unorthodox greeks, harmonious poets, rubbish magicians, safari suited cubans and possibly that smelly family dog too!” and enter a world beyond imagination.
As you may have guessed this is more then upper nosed high society cradling the finest china. However there are recommended behaviours to observe.
For instance the actual act of tea drinking is a highly sophisticated art form and if therefore more refined then your usual cuppa tea. However this isn’t a pinkie in the air kind of affair…so kudos to creativeness and originality. What would the world be without it?
This is your weekend to let out your inner child and run wild. (Terms and Conditions always apply)

I had goose bumps just looking at the poster as I stood in line to buy a ticket for the much awaited, much anticipated Fokofpolisiekar documentary. Nothing has changed, Fokofpolisiekar had people talking when they first emerged on the SA music scene as the first truly punk rock Afrikaans act and they still make people talk about them today. With a title such as “Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do”, they show once again that no matter how hard people fought against them, they fought back even harder because they knew exactly what they were doing – they were standing up for what they believe in.
If you are not yet a fan, do yourself a favour and go buy their latest offering – the soundtrack to the documentary, also titled “Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do”. Containing all the classic Fokofpolisiekar songs, such as “Fokofpolisiekar”, “Hemel op die platteland”, “Vernietig Jouself”, “Antibiotika” and many more, this is the perfect introduction to the rock gods of SA in case you have not joined the revolution yet. The last song, “Ek Skyn (Heilig)”, will leave you with a sense of awe and admiration for what these legends have done for the music generation of South Africa.
Like Ghandi said: They became the change they wanted to see in the world. They still are.
Never really being a fan of Afrikaans music, I listen to Zinkplaat’s latest release, Mooi Besoedeling; and they certainly change my opinion of Afrikaans rockers. This Stellenbosch-based band sure knows how to create rock ‘n’ roll in their mother language and they are doing it with immense conviction.
The packaging of Mooi Besoedeling is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Zinkplaat certainly sets the standard for any new releases in the future extremely high with their revolutionary new packaging. The album appears to be silver on the front and back with a colorful collection of images on the inside. However, upon closer inspection one realises that the plectrum included is not just a novelty – it is actually included because all the silver on the album cover is a scratch card for which you can use the plectrum to unveil the true cover of the album. Simply awesome!
The title track on the album , called “Frekwensie”, sets the atmosphere of the album and with lyrics such as “Maak jou eie klanke as jy wil / hoe jy dit doen maak ‘n moerse verskil / skakel in op my frekwensie”, it clearly indicates that this is not just another hollow album with meaningless lyrics, repetitive rhythms and superficial themes.
Zinkplaat’s lyrics are honest and they say what we as normal people feel in every day society, but so often don’t have the courage to say out loud: “Dieselfde mense in dieselfde plek / dieselfde foute totdat hulle vrek / en ons kan niks daaraan doen nie.” With their truthful and ingenuous lyrics they comment on social and political issues with an admirable subtlety.
With Mooi Besoedeling Zinkplaat proves that they do not have to stand back for anyone even though they did not follow the mainstream and rocked out in English. This album is certainly a “baanbreker” for music in South Africa.
