Everyone is invited. Support this Fundraiser Music Festival for Zimbabwe

Overtone is proud to host the first ever ZimFest in South Africa.

The concept is simple. We set up the most awesome collection of bands in South Africa and ask them to perform at our massive music festival. You all come and have a massive party. Make a difference – Party for Zimbabwe. The proceeds all go to Humanitarian efforts for Zimbabwe.

This month, it’s Upcoming & Independent music on Overtone. Find out how to win a website! Our new site is on the way, and through it, you’ll find getting booked (and booking artists) easier, as well as being able to add image galleries, your music, and loads of other features! 16. What a great festival!!

Great acts! I’m so looking forward to this. All my Zimbabwean friends will be there. You guys deserve a ‘Mandela-handshake’ ;-)

I’d love to see TUCAN TUCAN. They have a great African vibe, lots of positive attitude and a lot of love in their music.

… also love the headlining bands, especially my favourites: freshlyground, Rudimentals & Ike Moriz. The Dirty Skirts have been making waves too. Looking forward to check them out as well.

    See you all there!

    Love & peace

  42. SHY GUEVARAS – A mission statement that fits…

If the world was as predictable and Savvy a place, as most of the wondering souls in it perceive it to be, then we wouldn’t need to vote for them, they would automatically be on all playlists – and in saying this, I’m pretty sure that will soon be the case – SHY GUEVARAS be the band of the decade, but if you followers and so called revolutionaries don’t vote, in-order to experience SHY GUEVARAS’ awesome, fantastic, amazing, mind and ear pleasing sounds, which can only via them – the SHY GUEVARAS, be so emotionally and rippingly transmitted using the tools and talents of their trade(which they all so perfectly portray) in the most unforgettable fashion… An experience that once exposed to, will keep you hooked — Just like everything in
this world that is addictive — only difference being that YOU CAN TELL EVERYBODY that they play the songs, that pretty much everyone else would on hearing SHY GUEVARAS, sing along…

So then,,, as the wonderers of these exposed reefs, we call earth, which needs to constantly be maintained and moulded, let all who KNOW,,, Hells bells – LET all who don’t yet KNOW,,, that the SHY GUEVARAS are MOST WORTHY of their spotlight in the MEMORIES OF ALL MANKINDS ARCHIVES.

Just a Fan and friend, and someone who digs brilliant music

I’m all for the fest (yeah, it’s gonna be grand), but just come down from your goodie-good shoe horsie. I’d love to see the Nude Girls! Have they not offered to play?

    By Michael S on Jul 17, 2008

  47. Tim Scholz,

In that space “j…..” you wanted to put “jacSharp” – we aren’t embarrassed or ashamed but rather proud to spread a positive message in order to get in the spirit of this cause.

Remember the bands promoting themselves is what inturn promotes Zimfest.

  55. We here at Overtone have been asked why the following bands have been selected already..

    Freshlyground
    The Dirty Skirts
    The Rudimentals

The confirmed bands so far have been isolated for the fact they generated an immediate response from the public in terms of votes with out even notifying their fan bases.

Also the number of queries we have received for their content pages and tags on Overtone is well above the others.

They also have the largest combined fan base in Cape Town . Which secures the total number of people we need to cover costs.

They are also well known enough by sponsors making it more likely to generate sponsorship.

Also – Freshlyground and The Rudimentals have a strong Zimbabwean connection.

Rest assured that the other bands who are still at the polling stations and are high up the charts will more than likely be included on the bill.

We have also launched the Greater Zimfest.

If you are interested all you have to go is offer a discount to Zimfest ticket holders at your upcoming gigs or whatever you feel in the upcoming months.

The result is that you help to increase the value of having a presold ticket and this makes more cash for the cause.

It also gives all artists an opportunity to be involved in the fundraising element of the fest even if they dont perform at ZIMFEST 08 popper.

let me know your thoughts. If you are keen all you do is let people know of your offer and where they can get the tickets. etc.

The physical ticket is a badge that they must show you for the discount.

chat to you all soon . dont stress.

We really need to your help so that we can become a voice for the people of Zim in their struggle to be free.

It will only take a few seconds and you will be helping us reach our goal.”

This is amazing. How far will you guys go to promote yourself, mmm?

  119. This voting system seems a bit dodge.

Only 1 vote per IP address (which appears to be the case) means that only 1 person out of 500 in a school can vote. I’m guessing the same applies to universities only on an even worse scale.

It also means no one in the same office can vote.

A little annoying and not a great way to motivate bands to drive traffic to your site.

    By Michael S on Jul 15, 2008

  92. Hahaha… I gotta share this with you holier than thou self-promoting bands. i just got this email, encouraging me to vote (hahaha,.. I’m still in stitches..):

“vote for j…… to play at Zimfest!

( full name taken out to save embarassment )

We really need to your help so that we can become a voice for the people of Zim in their struggle to be free.

It will only take a few seconds and you will be helping us reach our goal.”

This is amazing. How far will you guys go to promote yourself, mmm?

    hahaha…

By Tim Scholtz on Jul 15, 2008

  93. Bed on Bricks should play this gig. they are a fab party band!

By Tim on Jul 15, 2008

In that space “j…..” you wanted to put “jacSharp” – we aren’t embarrassed or ashamed but rather proud to spread a positive message in order to get in the spirit of this cause.

Remember the bands promoting themselves is what inturn promotes Zimfest.
