Opening it's doors on the 5th of March 2010, this store derived it's name from the neighbourhood located in Kingston, Jamaica.

This poor area of Kingston is known due to numerous Reggae musicians, including Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and most notably Bob Marley, who spent much of his youth in a government yard on First Street. His songs "Trenchtown", "Trenchtown Rock" and "No Woman, No Cry" make reference to it.

The restaurant caters for a wide variety of people, with food specials running all through the week, a brand new menu, and all big sporting events shown on the big screen over the weekend, its easy to see why this venue is chosen by many people for birthdays and larger function.

The restaurant consists of 3 seperate sections:

A large inside section with 2 LCD screens and the main bar, consisting of 7 draught taps, a large range of spirits, cocktails, beers and ciders.

An outside Malibu deck consisting of a deck, pebbled seating area, a bar stocked with beers and ciders and a stage area complete with 2 LCD screens and a projector for all the sport enthusiasts.

Lastly there's the Beer Garden section. Interlinked with the other 2 sections, a large seating area and its very own cocktail bar make this outdoor area the perfect spot for a nice, chilled day in the sun.

Situated at 92-96 Station Road in Observatory (previously Roots/Cool Runnings), this restaurant is open weekdays from 12pm-12am, Friday and Saturday 12pm-2am and on Sundays from 4pm-12am.

The Linder Auditorium, a prominent concert and cultural venue widely recognised for its acoustic merits, is situated at the Education Campus of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), 27 St Andrews Road, Parktown, Johannesburg .

In addition to the use of the auditorium for concerts, choir festivals, dancing, ballet, a variety of musical and ceremonial productions, Wits and the management of the Linder auditorium actively encourage the use of the Linder and its satellite facilities (the Space Frame Foyer, the Space Frame theatre and the Exam Hall) for a variety of events. The facilities can be used for conferences, educational, prestigious business and multi-cultural functions, body-building and health conventions, etc at reasonable rates.

Comprehensive catering , refreshment and bar facilities are provided by the Siyafunda Café (situated immediately adjacent to the auditorium).

The Bassline opened on September 2nd 1994 & Closed it's doors nine years on. After hosting live original South African music six nights a week, the Bassline became a music institution and a home to our finest South African Jazz Musicians. They played there, met there, jammed there and ate there. From the day of its inception the Bassline was multi-cultural, "people mixed as comfortably as the music". The Bassline's relationship with embassies & sponsors resulted in its reputation extending abroad through the many international acts that passed through its doors.

Over the years the Bassline provided the platform
for the rise of many artists to the main stage. Vusi Mahlasela, Zim Ngqawana, the late Moses Molelekwa, Paul Hanmer & Jimmy Dludlu to name a few, all started at the Bassline playing to small houses. By 2003 the Bassline was booked to capacity when any of the above artists performed. The Bassline was fortunate to host Abdullah Ibrahim annually; this was due to the consistently high quality of live music production, which related to the Bassline earning its reputation as the most respected jazz club in SA.

After the Bassline in Melville closed due to landlord & spatial constraints (the club became too small for the bassline brand vision). Brad Holmes, the Bassline's 'original' owner and conceptualiser took up the post, from October 2003 at the MIDI Trust, as entertainment manager for the Newtown Music Hall. After 11 months working in this capacity, it reiterated wher Brad/Bassline's true strengths lie: In professional event management & live music programming. Add this to the Bassline's reputation & Brad's experience, it makes for a sought after music industry concoction.

With the Mandela Bridge in completion & the Newtown Cultural Precinct on the brink of realisation as the cultural hub of Africa, we feel that the bassline's introduction to the area will help speed up this much awaited moment. By bringing the expertise of the Bassline's production team, musicians who after a nine year relationship feel that the Bassline is their home and loyal patrons who have relentlessly been supportive through all the musical mutations, we feel certain that the Bassline Newtown will be a huge success. The re-opening of the Bassline will be one of the resolutions to the problem of lack of live music venues in South Africa, especially for the development of emerging artists.

Now as we look into the future of Bassline, the live South African music & event production brand and how it can be utilised to enhance itself, the Newtown Cultural Precinct and the Newtown Music Centre.

History
Evidence has been found confirming the existence of the Paulaner brewery since 1634. We owe our name to the Paulaner monks who established themselves in the Munich Kloster Neudeck (monastery) in the Au Valley at the request of the local Elector.

However, monastery life was pretty tough and hard work was a feature of the religious brothers' everyday existence. In order to give themselves strength during their strict fasts they brewed a strong, nourishing beer - later to be known as Salvator.

A divine idea: the monks gave all surplus beer that they had brewed to the poor or sold it at the monastery beer counter. But ecclesiastical competition soon became a thorn in the flesh for the private brewers of Munich and it wasn't long before they complained to the Munich City Council about the monastery beer counter.

Fortunately, the protest was in vain and to the joy of the citizens of Munich, the modest monks were granted an unrestricted license to brew in 1780 due to the outstanding quality of their beer.

Interestingly, the complaint manifesto of 1634 was the first document to mention the Paulaner brewery in Munich.

A Class act for 35 years

This little piece of history is situated in Lyttelton, Centurion. The Steak & Ale pub has been around for more than 35 years and if it’s many regulars have a say, it'll be around for much longer. This traditional South African pub is hidden away at 66 Botha Avenue. The exterior hides its truly South African interior. As soon as you enter you step into a bushveld atmosphere, complete with a grass roof and animals and rifles displayed on the walls. Add to this the smiling faces of the many regulars and you are in for a great time. At the Steak & Ale the patrons are more like a family than clientele.

Some people have frequented this popular neighbourhood pub for more than 34 years! When owners Brian and Charlene McKenzie took over the reigns seven years ago, they decided to keep up the long tradition that preceded them. They made some changes, but the atmosphere and look stayed the same. One new feature they did introduce, was to turn Steak & Ale into a live music venue. Posters of top South African artists cover the walls and one section bears autographs of the personalities who regularly come around. Well-known artists like Valiant Swart, Piet Botha, Karen Zoid and Anton Goosen have left their mark and it would be no surprise to see Kurt Darren sitting at a table. Fridays have been set aside for live acts of which artists are mostly Afrikaans and this is in line with the people who frequent the place. The introduction of the live acts has brought new clientele through the doors of Steak & Ale and management welcomes the music-loving people of Pretoria with open arms.

The Steak & Ale offers a classic pub experience and the big bar area is the central feature of the room. Next to this are the pool tables where competitions are played every Monday nights. The many television sets that are mounted on the walls add another dimension to the experience and its the perfect spot to relax with a drink and support your favourite sports team. A special section has been walled off for the restaurant area. The cubicles make for intimate and private dining. The menu is filled with delectable goodies including starters, salads, soups, burgers and a kiddies menu. It is the steaks that have to be tried though the T-Bone with mushroom sauce and chips is worth a mention as is the pub's peri-peri sauce which is hot as it is tasty. Among the rest of the meaty choices are oxtail and kebabs as delectable options. Great pub lunches are available and you might just want to try the old favourite - steak, egg and chips. Steak & Ale has no pretensions. It offers great value on atmosphere, company and food and once you've been there, you probably will return.

Steak & Ale opens at 10am and closes when the last people leave. The restaurant is open for lunch (noon to 3pm) and dinner (6pm-10pm) It is great for an afternoon breakaway or a fun-filled evening and young and old are welcome.

Function Hours

Décor
Any décor will be arranged set up and removed at your own cost and Bloemendal Wynhuis will not take any responsibility for any loss or damage caused.

Venue Hire
The full venue hire fee will secure your booking one-month prior to function. Full payment is required one week prior to function and any further payments on day of function.

A venue hire fee will be charged for 30 people and more with an option of an exclusivity fee to secure exclusivity of the venue for the function. The venue hire fee excluding the exclusivity fee will only accommodate you privately but not exclusively to the venue. No live music will be permitted if the exclusivity fee is not included.

Bar Facilities
Fully Stocked bar facilities are available. Prior arrangements with management for any special requests. A corkage fee will be charged on all bottles brought onto the facility.

A 10% service charge will be added to the total food and beverage bill.

Cancellation Policy
Should the function be cancelled within one month or less, the full venue hire fee will be forfeited. You will be liable for 50% of the total bill should the function be cancelled seven days prior to the event.

Sporting a very unique style of “bohemian” décor, with a different colour and pattern curtain at each window, original ”bohemian” paintings on the walls and with a variety of seating arrangements, Bohemia has become the icon of student life in Stellenbosch. Bohemia offers a varied student friendly menu with anything from pizza to burgers with a full liquor license. Bohemia caters for all tastes whether it is a quiet Sunday coffee or a raucous Wednesday night “kuier” or a live music night, so that you will never be disappointed.

Also on the menu for the more daring of Bohemia enthusiasts is the humble Middle Eastern water-pipe or Shisha, the very popular Hubbly-bubbly. They are served by the waiters already lit and ready to go, with a selection of flavoured tobaccos to be mixed and matched to the hearts content.

As far as bar-restaurants go, Bohemia has evolved with the changing times to cater for everyone. Being open from around ten in the morning and serving food and drink until two in the morning makes for quite a bit of time to try out different spots to sit (or stand). Upstairs you will find a foosball table and as you descend the stairs you might just stumble into the Moroccan style back bar. From there you can take yourself and your drink outside and catch a few rays on the veranda which wraps around the building’s corner position.

Although the venue is not the largest in Stellenbosch, it attracts huge crowds on band nights when the big names come there to strut their stuff - Akkedis,DNA Strings,Bed on Bricks,Cassette,Jesse Jordan,Dan Patlansky and Southern Gypsey Queen visit from further a field. Resident musician Jo Martin is the master of ambience every Tuesday night and has been doing so for more than three years. And there is always room for up & coming local bands.

The institution of Bohemia has been established in one of the oldest buildings in Stellenbosch, and is a national monument. Bohemia opens its doors to everyone and anyone looking for a good time.

Manenberg's Jazz Café was founded in 1994 By Dmitri Jegels and Clarence Ford, along with two others. It was situated in Adderley Street, Cape Town, South Africa. It quickly became the foremost live music venue of the city, featuring South Africa's top musicians like Hugh Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa, Bayete featuring Jabu Khanyile, Robbie Jansen - South Africa's foremost exponent of Cape Jazz, Sankomota led by Frank Leepa, Tsepho Tshola (the Village Pope), Mahlatini and the Mahotela Queens, Zim Nqawana, the late Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, Sipho Gumede, Winston Mankunku , Cape Town's own Diva affectionately known as Mama Kaap: Ncediwe Sylvia Mdunyelwa , Ringo Madlingozi and many others.

On any given night, people from all walks of life: Cabinet Ministers like Minister of Finance Trevor Manuel and Deputy Minister of Social Development Jean Benjamin, to business executives, members of the judiciary, journalists, celebrities like Denzel Washington and David Bowie, tourists and ordinary residents of Cape Town could be seen celebrating their common humanity through the form of the beautiful and vibrant music emanating from our uniquely African stage.

We also also catered for other forms of the arts: we allowed artists to exhibit their paintings and sculptures, comedians performed skits, a women's movement had a once-a-month women-only artists' evening, various dance groups held dance exhibitions, and the legendary James Mathews held poetry readings at the 1st Sunday in the month poet's club at manenberg's Jazz Cafe. It was a euphoric time, but not without its challenges, as South Africa was only then entering its first year of Democracy and the transformation which accompanied that. We closed our doors in late 1997. Manenberg's Jazz Cafe has returned in all its glory, once again establishing itself as the premier live jazz and African music venue in the city and the country, for that matter. Tanz Cafe is available for day and night functions seven days a week. For exclusivity of the venue there will be a venue hire that varies depending on the date and number of guests. Please email clare@tanzcafe.co.za with your function enquiry and details for the venue hire amount. The venue hire includes exclusive use of the venue, a full staff, a doorman, a sound and lighting engineer, and the use of our state of the art music system and intelligent lighting. The date will only be confirmed once the non refundable venue hire payment has been made. Please note a discretionary 10% Staff gratuity would be added onto your food and beverage bill. The final bill would need to be paid within 24 hours of the function.

We have a large variety of live entertainment to choose from i.e. blues, jazz, acoustic solo's / duo's, pop rock, comedy, etc. Bands range from about R 5 000.00 to R 60 000.00. We also have an excellent DJ who charges R 3 500.00 for the night. Call Grant directly on 082 855 5445 if you would like to discuss entertainment options.

There is a selection of set, buffet and snack menu's (see menu tab). We are flexible on the content of the menu depending on your taste and budget. Beverage tabs can be arranged. Corkage is R50 per bottle and we only allow wine or champagne to be brought into the venue.

If you do not need exclusivity you are welcome to book a large table on a "normal" evening. In this case you would need to choose a night of entertainment that you would enjoy (check out the upcoming gig" tab), and send an email to book. If the booking is for 20 guests or more we would require the entertainment fee to secure the table. You could then choose between Al La Carte, Snack or Set Menu.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is world-renowned for the beauty and diversity of the Cape flora it displays and for the magnificence of its setting against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.

Kirstenbosch grows only indigenous South African plants. The estate covers 528 hectares and supports a diverse fynbos flora and natural forest. The cultivated garden (36 hectares) displays collections of South African plants, particularly those from the winter rainfall region of the country. It was founded in 1913, read about the History of the Garden.

The Visitors' Centre includes an information desk and various retail outlets and a coffee shop. The Centre for Home Gardening has outlets for plants and other services to support the home garden. On Sundays during the summer months from December to March, musical sunset concerts are held on the lawns. Craft markets are also held at the Stone Cottages (opposite Kirstenbosch) on the last Sunday of every month (except June, July & August). Hours and fees
The Garden is open 365 days a year from 08:00 - 19:00 (September -March) and from 08:00 - 18:00 (April - August). The entrance fee is R30 for adults and R20 for South African students with student ID cards. Fees for school children (6-18 years old) are R5. Children under 6 years old and Botanical Society members have free entry. SA senior citizens have free entry on Tuesdays, if it is not a public holiday.

How to Get There
Map

By bus - There is a bus service to Kirstenbosch from Cape Town and Mowbray Station on working weekdays and the CitySightSeeing busses also visit.

By car - Kirstenbosch lies 13 km from Cape Town city centre. From the city, take De Waal Drive (M3) in the direction of Muizenberg, at the first traffic light intersection turn right (southwards) into Rhodes Drive (M63) and follow the signs to Kirstenbosch. See map

Special Features

The Botanical Society Conservatory - enables Kirstenbosch to display South African plants which cannot be grown in the outdoor gardens. Here, under one roof, you will find plants from high mountain peaks, shady forests and hot, dry deserts. The main house, dominated by a large baobab tree, features succulents from the arid regions of southern Africa. Special collections of bulbs, ferns and alpines are displayed in smaller corner houses.

Peninsula garden - displays some of the 2 500 plant species found on the Cape Peninsula.

Water-wise garden - demonstrates how to create a garden which needs far less water and maintenance than a conventional garden.

Fragrance garden - features plants with interesting textures and scents.

Medicinal garden - Find out about the many medicinal uses of South African plants.

The Dell - the oldest part of the Garden, featuring Colonel Bird's Bath, tree ferns and a variety of shade-loving plants.

Protea garden - features members of the protea family (Proteaceae). This part of the Garden is most magnificent in winter and spring, when the proteas, conebushes and serrurias are in flower. Pincushions provide a colourful display in early summer.

Restio garden - focuses on the incredible variety of texture and form found in the reed family (Restionaceae).

Useful Plants garden (UPG) - the redevelopment and extension of the Medicinal Plants garden

Van Riebeeck's hedge - planted in 1660 to protect cattle of the Cape colonists.

Die Libertas Teater Klub is op 5 April 1960 op Stellenbosch gestig, nadat plaaslike toneelliefhebbers reeds lank van so 'n klub gedroom het. Die klub, eers net bekend as die Libertas Teater Klub, se hoofkantoor was in die ou Wynkelder op die plaas Vredelust in Dorpstraat. Vandag is die bekende De Kelder Restaurant daar gehuisves. In 1967 verskuif die klub na 'n ou stal op die Bergzicht-terrein waar dit vandag nog gesetel is.

Tot 1994 was die Libertas Teater uitsluitlik 'n amateurklub. Die naam het intussen verander na die Klein Libertas Teater om dit te onderskei van die Oude Libertas Teater van Distell. Soos wat politieke strukture in die land verander het en die kunsterade verval het, het kunstenaars self bein werk skep en ruimtes gesoek om op te tree. Die Klein Libertas Teater word nou al hoe meer deur professionele kunstenaars gebruik

Alhoewel die teater nog steeds sy amateur-vleuel lewendig hou, het die klem nou ook sterk begin val op gemeenskapsteaterprojekte. Een hiervan is die “Pretty Ladies”, ’n groep plaasarbeidervroue wat met hul teateroptredes reeds wyd bekendheid verwerf het. Onlangs het die Klein Libertas Teater ook as produksiehuis geregistreer en twee uiters suksesvolle professionele produksies het die lig gesien naamlik “Want, kyk die bruidegom is hier” – ’n program oor die werk van Hennie Aucamp en “Pas de Deux” van Hugo Claus met Nicole Holm en Johann Nel. Albei die akteurs het benoemings vir die Fleur du Cap-toekennings ontvang.

Alhoewel die Klein Libertas Teater se fokus nog steeds sterk op amateurteater val, is daar nou ander bene waarop die klub funksioneer byvoorbeeld:

The Basement

The beautiful mosaic styled theatre seats 70 – 80 people and is suited to intimate performances. The African theme promotes an outstanding theatre venue in a world class African city. The Basement will cater for, among others, jazz, drama, cabaret, one-man-shows and poetry. The flexible design of the auditorium caters for various seating configurations from auditorium to conference to caberet style. However, given numerous enquiries, it seems that the informal setting that allows patrons to sit around a table and enjoy drinks from the excellent cocktail bar whilst watching the show on stage is the most popular!

The City of Joburg, who funded the Basement, decided that the theatre would be a valuable asset to improve infrastructure in the cosmopolitan Westrand region as well as to give both emerging and professional artists an arena to showcase their talent. The construction and design of the Basement was within budget as most of the impressive work was done in-house by the Promusica team. The unique mosaic designed tables were hand made in a team building exercise by the staff who were encouraged and inspired to make them as creative as possible.

This venue can also be used to host your company function or cocktail party, but booking is essential.

Splashy Fen Farm, 18km from Underberg in KZN, is home to the annual Splashy Fen Music Festival.

Established in 1990, Splashy Fen is South Africa’s longest-running music festival, which every Easter attracts thousands of people to the stunning Southern Drakensberg.

Over the years, Splashy Fen has built a strong reputation as a financially viable, responsible and well-organised event that is not only one of the premier music festivals in the country but also one of KwaZulu-Natal’s top five events. As such it enjoys the support of Tourism KwaZulu-Natal which values the festival’s key role in driving tourist volume into the province.

Widely recognised for its contribution to promoting local music, the festival has since its inception provided a platform for close to 1 500 established and emerging artists and helped kick-start many a successful music career. Well-known artists who’ve performed at Splashy Fen include Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Vusi Mahlasela, Koos Kombuis, Jennifer Ferguson, Madala Kunene, Lesley Rae Dowling, Neill Solomon, Landscape Prayers, Tananas, Just Jinger, Prime Circle, Hothouse Flowers, Tree63, Dan Patlansky, Watershed, Springbok Nude Girls, The Parlotones and Chris Chameleon among numerous others.

Infrastructure has been built up over the years to support the growing festival. This includes Eskom power, public telephones, permanent and temporary ablution facilities, stalls for food and craft vendors and a marquee ‘village’ to accommodate the different stages, bar areas, security and medical services. Tons of sound, stage and lighting equipment is assembled each year to ensure that the quality of the sound matches the quality of the music.

2009 will mark the celebration of the 20th Splashy Fen Music Festival – a huge achievement and major milestone for organisers and stakeholders alike!

As in the past, the 2009 event will run over the Easter long weekend from 9 to 13 April and offer an extensive four-day programme of top and up-and-coming artists, including featured performances by several Splashy Fen ‘legends’.

There will also be fun activities for the whole family, arts and crafts, assorted food and drink outlets, a crèche and children’s entertainment programme, as well as camping facilities, a separate family campsite and tent hotel – all set against the backdrop of the scenic, visitor-friendly Southern Drakensberg area.

It is an outdoor venue with a covered stage. We have a pavillion that can seat about 1000 people and lots of open grass and a huge cement slab.

Fogey's Railway House Restaurant

A restaurant located in a building reminiscent of the golden days of Muizenberg with the “finest seascape views” as it was reviewed in the South African Railways and Harbour magazine of 1913.

The red bricked stone faced Station building with the teak clock tower was designed by a pupil of Sir Herbert Baker and opened by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. Henry Burton on 7th June 1913. The fine proportions and generosity of space of the interior is characteristic of this period.

The building has had a few transformations that add to its charm. To begin with it housed the station tearoom, where the turn of the century diamond and gold barons ‘took to tea’ on the open air balcony. During the war years it was changed into the Station Master’s House and in the mid nineties, with the restoration of the station, it was changed back into a restaurant. After a two year closed period, it was revamped and open as the Railway House Restaurant. Under new management in July 2005 the name was changed to Fogeys Railway House Restaurant to establish a unique identity.

The Station Building ~ a National Heritage Site ~ forms the Gateway to the Historic mile with De Posthuys, the oldest Colonial building in South Africa; Rhodes Cottage and the Natale Labia Gallery within walking distance of the restaurant.

In the late 1800 Muizenberg was said to be the premier holiday resort of Southern Africa. With the arrival of the railway in 1883 tens of thousands of local day-tripper could have access to the sea where previously only the wealthy who owned horses and traps could. With the growth of Muizenberg came the necessity for a station which will embody the importance of this popular resort. The architectural department of the South African Railway set about creating a statement in stone to acknowledge Muizenberg’s importance.

Today, this Edwardian red-brick structure with arched sandstone entrances still grace the skyline of Muizenberg and carries Fogeys Railway House Restaurant. The restaurant is situated above what still serves as the Railway Station, with a décor that speaks of the sheer elegance of the ‘20’s. On entering the building with its still original high sealing and wooden floor one is instantly transported to the 1920’s, where little old men enjoyed their tea in their black suites and top hats.

The restaurant serves delectable global cuisine and breath-taking views of the False Bay.
The menu could be described as light South African / Mediterranean with a well thought out selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes ~ concentrating on fresh ingredients and fresh ideas with attention to detail

The Manic Mondays are Legendary and grew out of the old Springfields Monday's. Downstairs on a Monday and Wednesday you can see up and coming talent and established groups ply their trade. On weekends the Big Guns come out to play. Fridays in the lounge are well known for their mix of 50',60's,70's,80's & 90's Classics with a formidible array of DJ's. We are a venue MogallyWood (see www.mogallywood.com) outside of Magaliesburg looking for event organisers to host their events. We have an unusual setting for music/modelling/comedy/teambuilding etc. We are rustic but do have space and facilities to accommodate campers during an event. We have a 20/30 seat restaurant with lovely social bar and also serve handcrafted beer from our micro brewery. Our fixed stage area can accommodate 3000 people but the terrain can be expanded to cater for audiences up to three times that. We also have clay pigeon shooting and archery equipment plus mountain bikes and lovely routes to use and then the Magaliesberg is there to climb/scale.

We hosted the Winter Jam Metal/Rock festival 27-29 Aug 2010, Scorcher Fest November 2009 and MogallyRock in October 2009.
