Bed On Bricks At Mercury Live | Acoustic College Rock

May 12, 2008 – 17:07 by John

Bed on Bricks played at Mercury Live on Friday 9th May and they clearly showed why they are one of the top South African bands and my favourite one at the moment. If I had two extra hands I’d give them four thumbs up.

Die Helde kicked off the show, followed by “experimental alternative rock” three-piece The Plastics. Bed on Bricks got up just after 11.30 and played songs from their two albums Humanarium and If You See Kay and also included a track from their long awaited third album Royal Honey. Each song was played to perfection and the crowd thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lead singer Mike Hardy also showed us he does not just have a good voice but he can play the sax pretty well when they played “Hope in my Eye.” Honestly I cannot fault this band on anything their performance was good their songs are great and their sound is so refreshingly unique. If you have never heard or seen them before do yourself a favour and go check out their gig guide at www.bedonbricks.co.za

Bed On Bricks is Dave van der Linden on guitar, Schalk van der Merwe, on bass, Tim Rankin on drums and Mike Hardy on vocals.

  • Bed On Bricks once tried to get the word ‘fuck’ in a song on the radio, and their second album If You See Kay is a tribute to this magnificent effort. Overtone Kudos.
